What exactly is socratic questioning?

What is Socratic Questioning?
Socratic questioning is disciplined questioning that can be used to pursue thought in many directions and for many purposes, including: to explore complex ideas, to get to the truth of things, to open up issues and problems, to uncover assumptions, to analyse concepts, to distinguish what we know from what we don't know, to follow out logical implications of thought, or  to control the discussion. There are 6 types of Socratic questioning and they are Questions for clarification, Questions that probe assumptions, Questions that probe reasons and evidence, Questions about viewpoints and perspectives, Questions that probe implications and consequences and Questions about the question.
How are you going to use Socratic Questioning in your performance task.
Some ways of including Socratic Questioning into our performance task would be by questions such as,

What would be an example of genetic modification commonly found in modern society? Would you explain why it is necessary or beneficial, and who benefits? What are the strengths and weaknesses of genetic modification? How does genetic modification affect the solve problems e.g.: over competitiveness etc.?  How does genetic modification apply to everyday lives? Why do you think it is important for everyone to know about genetic modification?
